Beth Quaintmere (née Taylor)
When I began the training, our Course Tutor made it very clear that she expected high standards from her students. Both she and the other lecturers on the Course were, in my opinion, well appointed. The lectures and training went way beyond the minimum required to obtain the qualification, and although myself and some of my fellow students would sometimes ‘curse ‘ the extra work load, the benefits soon became apparent when I entered the job market with many offers of employment based on the reputation of the Course. The placements were well programmed and diversified, offering the students a broad spectrum of the responsibilities and various aspects of child care. The sometimes heavy work load required a great deal of self discipline and commitment and during these periods of training our Course Tutor would visit us to monitor our progress and offer any extra help should we need it, whether professional or personal. The lectures were always presented in an interesting manner, with our Tutor often sharing her own experiences whether humorous or tragic, and again, extra help and support was always available if it was required. One of the requirements of our training was that we wore a uniform and although reluctant at first, I soon became proud to wear this symbol of my future profession. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at College and would like to thank all the staff for their unrelenting guidance, support and friendship. |
