Claire Purchase (née Farrar)

From quite an early age, I had decided that I would like to work with young children, and I chose this particular College because of its very good reputation.

The tutors on the Course were all very supportive and as there were only 18 students in our group , we were able to receive individual time and help when needed.

The training did involve a great deal of hard work, with observations; activities and assignments, but the tutors were always available to offer advice and encouragement.

Placements were a very important part of our training and every effort was made by staff to place students in placements to suit their needs; for example location and particular age groups to cover nurseries; schools, hospitals and families.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placements. The tutors would always come and visit all students in the first few weeks at a new placement to make sure we were happy and settled and if there were any problems they would do everything they could do solve them. A further visit was then made later on in the term.

During my two years training, there was a very high professional standard set by our Course Tutor which was recognized by all the placements. Nursery Nurses; supervisors and teachers were always impressed by the level of work produced by our Course.

Through the support of tutors and the training received, I have been very fortunate as after two years of working in two nurseries, I was offered the Deputy Nursery Nurse position at my very first placement. I have been working here for over six years and have thoroughly enjoyed caring for children between the ages of six months and five years.

I left the nursery some months ago to start maternity leave and recently gave birth to a baby boy, so I am now able to put my excellent training into practice on my own child !
