As students we were fortunate in having a Course Tutor who herself had trained as a nursery nurse and both she and all her colleagues had the very highest of standards. The Course was well planned and included an excellent variety of subjects. This helped to widen our knowledge and experience of child care. Lectures were both theoretical and practical. These included Food Hygiene; Cookery; Nursery Practice and Creative Art, all of which helped me when I went to my placements. Nursery Practice included bed making; cot making; baby bathing; nappy changing; making up feeds and such like. Three days a week were spent in College and two days a week in a placement. I thoroughly enjoyed both. On our placements we covered all ages of children from 0 -7 years 11 months, attending a different placement each term. When starting College, we were required to buy a lot of books, which proved invaluable for our studies; for research purposes; for revision as well as some lectures. Now , as a mother, I still continue to use them ! We were also required to wear a uniform which I feel was very useful. We wore our uniform on our placements as well as for Nursery Practice and special events in College. It helped parents and staff to recognize who we were as well as enabling us to look very smart and professional. It would genuinely be true to say that we owe the success of our training to the excellent way it was organized and implemented for us. Our lecturers were all very friendly and helpful as well as being very knowledgeable in their particular specialist subjects. Having now received such a high quality training, I would thoroughly recommend a similar training where these good practices and high standards are maintained. I feel it to be really important that all nursery nurses should be trained in such a way as we were. |
